MRS. J. R. F. SCHMIDT

Mrs. Jacob R. F. Schmidt, nee Elizabeth Franz, daughter of Jacob Franz and Katharine Pankratz was born Feb. 25, 1875 at Goessel in Marion County, Kansas.

She was baptized upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior on May 18, 1891 by Elder Jacob Buller and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. She was a faithful participant in the life of the congregation.

She was united in marriage March 30, 1894 with Jacob R. F. Schmidt with whom she shared life's joys and sorrows for more than 52 years. Elder Heinrich Banman officiated. Their livelihood was secured through the occupation of farming. Most of their married life was lived in the Goessel area, except for 10 years when they lived in Thomas County and about six years in Newton, Kansas. God blessed this union with nine children, four sons and five daughters.

After the death of her husband in December of 1946, Mother Schmidt continued to live in Newton until 1953 when she moved to Goessel. About a year ago she became ill and became a resident of the home for aged in Moundridge and Goessel.

Mother Schmidt was a hard worker, having helped much with farm work and performing her home work in and around the house diligently. She was faithful in her family worship. She was a good mother to her children and grandchildren.

She suffered a stroke Feb. 1, 1962 and entered the Bethesda Hospital where she remained a patient until her death on March 3, 1962, having reached the age of 87 years. One daughter Martha, Mrs. Arthur Buller, preceded her in death.
