CORNELIUS J. SCHMIDT

Cornelius J. Schmidt was born June 1, 1879, at Goessel, Kan. to Jacob S. and Helena Schmidt. He passed to his heavenly home Saturday, Feb. 8, 1964, having reached the age of 84 years, eight months and seven days.

On May 29, 2898, he was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus as his personal Savior by Rev. Peter Balzer and received as a member into the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. When the Tabor Mennonite Church was organized he and his wife became charter members on Jan. 21, 1909. He remained a faithful member of this church until his death.

On Nov. 9, 1904, he was united in marriage to Marie Friesen by Rev. C. C. Wedel. To this union six daughters and three sons were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Edwin, one son-in-law, Herbert Klassen, and three grandchildren.

Our parents had the privilege to celebrate both their silver and golden wedding anniversaries. They moved to Goessel in January of 1955. After mother's death in September of the same year, father lived by himself. Due to his failing health he spent the last few months of his life in the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pankratz and Mr. and Mrs. John Golden. He was looking forward to his going home, so we believe the call did not come unexpectedly.

He leaves to mourn his death, the children, (Olga) Mrs. Henry Pankratz and family; (Alice) Mrs. John Dirksen and family; Ferd and family; (Mary) Mrs. John Golden and husband; (Esther) Mrs. Herbert Klassen and family; Jake and family; (Helen) Mrs. Arthur Janzen and family; 24 children; one sister, Mrs. Henry R. Schroeder and husband, Ferndale, Wash., and a host of friends and relatives. — The Family.
