CAROLINE ROSE SCHMIDT

Caroline Rose Schmidt was born on Feb. 19, 1886 to Andrew J. and Nellie (Nickel) Schmidt at Whitewater, Kan. and died April 22, 1972 at the age of 86 years.

She was baptized July 13, 1903 by Rev. G. N. Harms at the Grace Hill Mennonite Church. After finishing grade school, she attended Bethel Academy from 1902 until 1905. From 1905 through the spring of 1908 she was engaged in teaching in Medford, Okla. and the Grace Hill community.

On Nov. 19, 1908 she was married to Daniel W. Schmidt, who preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1961. They lived in the Grace Hill community until 1936 when they moved east of Wichita, Kan. In 1948 they ought a home in Wichita, where they joined the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church.

To this union ten children were born; six sons, Edmund, Marvin and Willard of Wichita, John of Douglass, Alfred of Eureka, and Walter, who died march 27, 1965; four daughters, Mrs. J. W. (Luella) Peters and Mrs. Ernest (Hilda) Speck, both of Wichita, Mrs. Wilbur (Ethel) Walker of Newton, and Mrs. Gene (Esther) Doyle of Amarillo, Texas. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Gus (Winnie) Ewert of Whitewater.

Services were held at the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church, with burial at the Grace Hill church. The scripture used by Rev. Melvin Schmidt for the praise service was Mrs. Schmidt's favorite, Psalm 4:8, "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety."
