ANTON SCHMIDT

Anton Schmidt was born July 25, 1916, to David L. and Lena Schmidt. He attended Antoich School. He was baptized by P. H. Unruh and was a lifetime member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.

He was married to Elsie Duerksen on March 3, 1950, with Philip A. Wedel officiating. He farmed with his father near Goessel until his father's retirement. He also worked at Hesston Corporation for 16 years, retiring in 1981. He took great pride in his work at the corporation. During his retirement years, he took up the sport of bowling, which became an enjoyable pastime.

When his health failed, they moved to Goessel and shortly thereafter to Bethesda Home for the Aged, where he resided until his death on March 12, 1988, at the age of 71.

His survivors include his wife, Elsie; two daughters and their husbands, Fern and Roger Bartel of rural Hillsboro and Bonnie and Bill Clarkson of rural Stark; two grandchildren; two sisters, Olga Dyck and Frieda Flaming. A sister, Martha Reimer, preceded him in death.
