— Mrs. Anna Schmidt, 98, widow of Peter Schmidt, died Jan. 14 at the Bethel Home for Aged. Funeral services were held Tuesday forenoon at the First Mennonite Church, with Rev. Robert Suderman in charge. Mrs. Schmidt was born in Russia on Nov. 1, 1872. She married Mr. Schmidt at Hillsboro in 1890, and he died in 1939. She had lived in Newton for the past 18 years. Surviving are three sons, Rev. Rudolph Schmidt of Buhler, Rev. August Schmidt and Ted Schmidt, both of Newton; five daughters, Mrs. Sara Ensz of Reedley, Calif., Deaconess Lola Schmidt and Mrs. Mary Martens of Newton, Mrs. Anna Thiessen of Buhler, and Mrs. Justine Bogema of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Mary Fast of Newton; 22 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
