WALTER ERWIN SCHMIDT

Walter Erwin Schmidt, son of Daniel and Caroline (Schmidt) Schmidt, was born near Newton, Kan. on June 13, 19919 [sic 1919] and died at the Harper, Kan. Hospital on March 27, 1965 at the age of 45 years, nine months, and 14 days.

On Oct. 6, 1946 he was married to Josephine Naffziger, who survives with their daughters, Rosemary, Linda and Phyllis, and one son, Roger; his mother, Mrs. D. W. Schmidt of Wichita; five brothers, Edmund, Marvin, and Bill of Wichita, John of Douglass, Kan. and Alfred of Eureka, Kan.; four sisters, Luella, Mrs. Jake Peters, and Hilda, Mrs. Ernest Speck of Wichita, Ethel, Mrs. Wilbur Walker of Newton, and Esther, Mrs. Gene Doyle of Freedom, Calif., and a host of relatives and friends.

At the age of 22, Walter was baptized into the Lorraine Avenue Church in Wichita. He transferred his membership to the Crystal Springs Mennonite Church in 1948. He attended services regularly and was a faithful member until the time of his death.

He was always willing to work in his church as well as helping his neighbors and friends. He enjoyed singing and often sang with his children and taught them songs at an early age. He was a kind and devoted father and husband.

From 1943 and 1946 he served in Civilian Public Service. At the time of his death he was employed as a mechanic at Martin Richardson Chevrolet-Pontiac garage in Harper.

Walter will be greatly missed in his home and community. — The Family.
