TOBIAS B. H. SCHMIDT
Father Tobias B. H. Schmidt; son of Benjamin and Anna Schmidt, was born at Antonofka, Poland, Russia, on Aug. 13, 1861, and died at his home near Isabella, Okla. July 21, 1954, at the age of 92 years, 11 months and eight days.
He came to America with his parents in 1874 at age of 13. They made their home in McPherson county, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. He was converted and found remission of sins in the Blood of Jesus, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at the Lonetree church, Galva, Kansas on Dec. 20, 1879, by Min. John Holdeman.
He was married to Elizabeth Schmidt on Sept. 26, 1886, at McPherson, Kansas. Twelve children, eight sons and four daughters, were born to this union. After their marriage the couple made their home at Durham in Marion county, Kansas. On Jan. 9, 1901, they moved to Oklahoma. On Feb. 16, 1909, they moved to Electra, Texas where they lived until moving back to Isabella, Okla. on Aug. 3, 1917. They lived at several different places near Isabella, and the last years were spent south of Isabella. Here his wife passed away Jan. 23, 1938, having shared joys and sorrows for 52 years.
He became ill with leakage of the heart about Sept. 15, 1941, and on June 15, 1952 he suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. He suffered another stroke on July 9, 1954.
He leaves to mourn his departure two sons and three daughters, Susan of the home, Mary, Mrs. Joe Eck and Emas of Montezuma, Kansas, Joseph of Ringwood, Okla., and Eva of the home; 22 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, six sons, one daughter, one daughter-in-law, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren preceded him in death. Father left us with a full assurance of eternal life, — The Children.
