TOBIAS B. SCHMIDT

Tobias B. Schmidt, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Schmidt, was born on Jan. 1, 1904, and died on Feb. 23, 1972, at the age of 68 years, having suffered a heart attack. His education included attendance at the local elementary school and two years at the Hillsboro Academy.

Through parental guidance and the influence of the church, he established his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized by Rev. G. N Harms on June 11, 1922 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church. He remained a faithful member there to the end of his life. His last concern for the church was the completion of the Sunday school addition.

Father and mother were married on Feb. 2, 1927, at Friedenstal Mennonite Church, Durham, Kan. Father was known by his many friends as Tobe. He spent his entire life in one location, living on the same farm since the age of 13.

His concern for each of his children was that they receive a good education. Many hours were spent on education boards. His interests and experiences were varied and broad in scope, carrying him and mother to many parts of the world.

He is survived by his widow, Lena, one son, Harold and wife Verna and two children of Salina; two daughters, Miriam and husband John Claassen and two children of Whitewater, and Rosella and husband Otto Holgersen of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Elsie Harms of Newton; and two brothers, John of North Newton and Aaron of South Bend, Ind — The Family.
