THEO K. SCHMIDT

Theo K. Schmidt, son of Peter D. Schmidt, was born June 14, 1902, at Cordell, Okla. and passed away from this life to be with the Lord at 5:30 a.m., Dec. 10, 1967 at the Carnegie Hospital. He reached the age of 65 years, five months and 26 days.

He was united in matrimony to Minnie Klassen on Aug. 15, 1925. They made their home at Corn, Okla. until 1935 when they moved to Gotebo. The family was blessed with five children.

He accepted Christ as Saviour and was baptized and received into the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church in 1928. In 1941 they joined the Ebenezer Mennonite Church at Gotebo where faithfully he attended and served until his passing. He loved to sing gospel hymns. His favorite hymn was "On Jordan's Stormy Banks." In his last days he was longing for his "Home Going."

He was a good and faithful provider. He enjoyed and worked hard as a mechanic and blacksmith until 1962 when his health began failing. Even under physical difficulty he was determined not to give up.

He was also interested in local civic affairs and served as member of the town board from early 1940 until present.

He loved family gatherings and was very fond of all the children.

Father and mother made their home at the Corn Home for the Aged on October 24 in order that mother would be well cared for. They enjoyed their short stay in the home together.

He leaves to mourn with his passing, but without hope of meeting him in heaven, his wife, three daughters and two sons; Melba, Mrs. Clarence Mercer and family, Indiahoma, Okla; Titus and family, stationed with the armed services in Germany; Chester and family, Mound Valley, Kan., Florabelle, Mrs. Herman Zacharias and family, Gotebo; Tonia Gail, Mrs. Cary Bryant and family, Hobart; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, five brothers, and a host of relatives and friends. — The Family

Reader Response

Unfortunate Error In Obituary

A. G. Schmidt, Corn, Okla. — In last week's (Jan. 11) Mennonite Weekly Review a mistake somehow slipped into the "In Memoriam" of "Theo K. Schmidt. The last paragraph should read: "He leaves to mourn with his passing, but not without hope of meeting him in heaven, his wife, three daughters and two sons."

The little word "not" was somehow left out, which is a mistake. He had a clear testimony of his faith in Christ, as all who knew him and visited him during his illness well know. (Errors of this kind are most unfortunate, but somehow they can and do happen. We regret the omission of this small but important word, which somehow slipped past the proofreader. Ed.)
