MRS. SUSANA SCHMIDT
Mrs. Susana Schroder Schmidt, commonly known as Mrs. Henry R. Schmidt, was born Jan. 12, 1881, a twin daughter of Peter and Helena Voth, at Goessel Kansas.
She attended elementary school at Gordon, near Goessel in Marion county.
She was baptised upon confession of faith in her Redeemer Jesus Christ, May 12, 1898, by Elder Peter Balzer and accepted into the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church, of which she remained a faithful member until her death.
She was united in marriage May 23, 1913, to Henry R. Schmidt, with whom she shared joys and sorrows almost 22 years, when her husband was taken in death Feb. 4, 1935.
The departed enjoyed quite good health until the last years of her life, when she had to be taken to the hospital at various times. In the last few weeks her health began to fail very rapidly. After she had been ill at home for some time she was taken to the Bethesda hospital where all the possible medical aid and doctor's care was given her. However she passed away June 27, 1955, at 12:00 noon. She reached the age of 74 years, five months and 15 days.
The departed mother made her home with her children until 1947 when she moved to Goessel into her own home. She enjoyed a peaceful and quiet life and was very happy and contented.
She leaves to mourn her death her children: William Schmidt and wife Lena, and Jacob Schmidt and wife Laura, five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. H. J. Schmidt, and many relatives and friends. Three brotheres [sic] and four sisters preceded her in death.
We mourn, but we are "persuaded that neither death nor life, nor any other creature shall separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." "For blessed are they which die in the Lord," Her longing was fulfilled as she entered her heavenly Home prepared for her by Jesus who said, "Father I will that they also whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory." John 17: 24.
Funeral services were held in the Bergen funeral home and the Alexanderwohl church on June 29. Dr. D. C. Wedel officiated at the funeral home and Rev. P. A. Wedel officiated at the church services. Interment was made in the Alexanderwohl cemetery.
