• Funeral services were held Monday forenoon at the Alexanderwohl Church near Goessel for Peter B. Schmidt, 69, of Route 1, Canton. Rev. Aaron Epp, the pastor, officiated. Mr. Schmidt died Friday at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel after being a patient there for about three weeks. He was a native of the Goessel community and farmed near Canton for many years. He leaves his wife, the former Susie Goertz, three sons, two daughters, 17 grandchildren, one brother and two sisters. A son, John H., and a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Enz, reside in Newton.

PETER B. SCHMIDT

Peter B. Schmidt of Rt. 1, Canton, Kan., son of Peter and Helena (Unruh) Schmidt, was born May 10, 1894 in Marion County, Kan. He attended the Gordon Elementary School and also the Preparatory School at Goessel, Kan. for one year.

Upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior he was baptized May 31, 1914 by Elder Heinrich Banman and received into the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel, where he remained a faithful and active member until his death.

On Dec. 14, 1917 he was united in marriage to Susie Goertz. Rev. P. P. Buller officiated. Farming became the means of earning a livelihood as they took up residence in McPherson County, Kan. To this union were born seven children. Two children preceded him in death, one at birth and Harold at the age of 17. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last Dec. 16.

He was a good father and grandfather. He was a man of few words and allowed his loyalty to be demonstrated in deeds. He was a school board member of the Bunker Hill district for a number of years. He and his wife were among the first couples to serve on the Relief Committee of the church and he also served as an usher.

His health had failed during the last few years. On May 19, 1963 he entered the Bethesda Hospital, where he went to his eternal Home on June 17,1963 at the age of 69 years.

Those remaining to cherish the memory of his life are his wife, Susie; five children, Peter and wife Hilda of Lehigh, Edna and husband Artie Enz of Newton, Emma and husband Chester Regier of Hutchinson, Milfred and wife Marilyn of Rt. 2, Hillsboro, John and wife Deloris of Newton; 17 grandchildren; one brother Jacob of Rt. 2, Newton; two sisters, Lena, Mrs. D. L. Schmidt of Rt. 2, Hillsboro and Martha, Mrs. A. N. Dirksen of Rt. 2, Canton; and many other relatives and friends.
