MRS. OLGA SCHMIDT

It pleased the Lord to call to his eternal rest a faithful servant, (Mrs.) Olga Schmidt (nee Fiedler) on September 16. She was born on May 29, 1903 in Malewana, Poland, where she grew up. When she was 12 the family was sent to Siberia for eight years. After returning to Poland she married Jacob Schmidt on November 16, 1926. They were blessed with nine children, three of whom died in died in infancy. In 1928 the Schmidts moved to Canada, settling first in Lipton, Sask., then moving to Virgil, Ontario in 1943.

Having confessed Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour for most of their adult lives, they attended and felt at home in the Virgil Mennonite Brethren Church. They were baptized and joined this church in 1953. The next year they moved to St. Catharines, Ont., and joined the Scott St. Church. Because of poor health they lived with their daughter Ida for three years, beginning in 1972, and then moved to Tabor Manor.

Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her beloved husband, Jacob; three sons and their wives Bill and Viola, George and Helen, and Art and Arlene; three daughters and their families, Ida, Emily and Elain; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Philip and Adolph; a sister, Lena; and many relatives and friends.
