— Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl church for Miss Mary Schmidt, 74, who died suddenly at her home in the Goessel community Saturday morning, Feb. 14. Rev. P. A. Wedel, the pastor, officiated. Miss Schmidt was a lifelong resident of Marion County. She leaves two brothers, John of the home on Route 2, Hillsboro, and Karl of the same vicinity; and four sisters, Mrs. P. P. Schroeder and Mrs. Abraham Schmidt, both of Newton, Mrs. B. W. Schmidt of Route 2, Newton, and Mrs. H. I. Goertz of Hillsboro.

MARY SCHMIDT

Mary Schmidt daughter of Peter P. and Helena (Voth) Schmidt, was born Dec. 30, 1884, in Marion County, Kansas, and passed away Feb. 14, 1959, at 8:15 in the morning at her home. She reached the age of 74 years, one month and 14 days.

She received her elementary training in the Antioch and Hochfeld Schools.

She was baptized upon confession of faith May 31, 1903, by elder Peter Balzer and received as a member into the Alexanderwohl Church, where she remained a faithful member until her death.

In the declining years of both her father and mother, Mary took special care of them until their death. She lived with her brother John for about 15 years after the death of the parents.

She was unselfish and loved to minister to others. She was interested in missions and was active in her mission society. She loved her church and attended it regularly as long as health permitted. She left the record of a lovely personality yielded to the Christ who is altogether lovely, of one who shared generously of everything, who was a loyal friend, a faithful church member, and a devoted follower of the lowly Christ.

She leaves to mourn her death, her sister Margaret and husband P. P. Schroeder of Newton, Kan., Elizabeth and Abraham Schmidt of Newton, Karl and Helen Schmidt of Hillsboro, Kan., Mrs. Adolph Schmidt of Goessel, Kan.; Helen and husband Ben W. Schmidt of Newton, Anna and husband H. I. Goertz of Hillsboro, Gustav Duerksen of Goessel, John of the home in Hillsboro, Mrs. Ted Schmidt of North Newton, and many other close relatives and friends. Her parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

“And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem” (Rev. 21:10).

Funeral services were held in the Miller Funeral Home and the Alexnderwohl Church Feb. 17, 1959, in charge of Rev. P. A. Wedel, assisted by Rev. W. W. Harms. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
