JOHN A SCHMIDT

John A. Schmidt, son of Abraham, and Katharina Regier Schmidt, was born on Nov. 20, 1886 in Henderson, Neb. He had reached the age of 82 years, five months and 10 days when the Lord called him unto Himself.

In early childhood, shortly after the opening of the Oklahoma Territory, he with his parents settled in the Enid community. Except for a few years' residence at Dalhart, Texas, he lived in the Enid area the remainder of his life, being actively engaged in business and farming prior to retirement.

At the age of 17, upon recognition of his personal need, he accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior and Lord. He was baptized on May 24, 1903 and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church, in which he served faithfully in many capacities until his death. His was a strong personal faith. He enjoyed working for the Lord. He had a concern for his neighbors and often shared his faith with them.

He was married to Elizabeth Regier on Oct. 18, 1906. God blessed this marriage with three sons. Their first son lived only nine days. They enjoyed 56 years of married life together before his wife was called to be with the Lord in 1962. In addition to his wife and infant son, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, John H. and Walter A. of Enid; two daughters-in-law; five grandchildren; two brothers, Henry of Stephensville, Texas and Pete of Dinuba, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Jacob A. Voth of Enid; and many other relatives and friends.

He spoke much of his longing for heaven, and a clipping taped in the front leaf of his Bible is entitled "Getting Ready to Move."

While we will miss him, we sorrow not as those who have no hope, for we have the assurance that he is with the Savior he so early loved. — The Family.
