J. B. SCHMIDT

J. B. Schmidt, son of Benjamin T. Schmidt, was born in Poland in 1861 and came to America with his parents at the age of 13. The family settled near McPherson, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. He passed away at Carnegie, Okla. on July 9, 1952.

Father Schmidt was married to Lena C. Jantz at McPherson on Aug. 1, 1883, and to this union nine children were born. His wife and two sons preceded him in death.

The family moved to Oklahoma and located west of Enid in 1901. In 1902 they moved to their new claim 10 miles south of Carnegie, Okla. Here they maintained their home until 1933, when they moved to Carnegie. Father Schmidt became a member of the Mennonite church in 1882.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Anna L. Lowry of Ft. Cobb, Okla. and Mrs. Mary L. Shuster of Carnegie; five sons, Albert J. of Mono, Okla., Fred J. of Ft. Cobb, Henry, Jake and Dan of Carnegie; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held July 11 at the Baptist church in Carnegie, in charge of Rev. Curt D. Boese, pastor of the Faith Mennonite church, Greensburg, Kansas. Burial was made in the Alden cemetery, Alden, Okla.
