— Funeral services for Isaac J. Schmidt, 71, retired farmer of Route 4, Newton, were held Monday forenoon at the Grace Hill Mennonite Church with Rev. Herbert E. Miller in charge. Mr. Schmidt, a lifelong resident of Harvey County, died Thursday evening at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital. He leaves his wife, the former Martha Richert; a son Raymond of Burrton; one daughter, Mrs. Elmer L. Goering of the Halstead community; and a brother, Abe Schmidt, of Lavas, N. M.

ISAAC J. SCHMIDT
Isaac j. Schmidt, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Schmidt, was born Sept. 30, 1886, in Pleasant Township, Harvey County, Kansas. He departed this life after a short illness on Jan. 9, 1958, having attained the age of 71 years, four months and 10 days.
At the age of 17 he was baptized upon his confession of faith and received into the membership of the Grace Hill Mennonite Church where he remained a faithful member until his death.
On March 1, 1925, he was united in marriage to Martha Richert. To this union were born three children: Dora Irene, who passed away at the age of four years, Raymond Leroy and Linda Marie.
Bro. Schmidt spent his entire lifetime in the community where he was born and grew to manhood. He enjoyed farming and was privileged to have good health to carry on his farm work until shortly before his death. He was faithful in attending the services and the various functions of the church.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Martha; one son, Raymond Leroy and wife, Elfrieda of Burrton, Kan.; one daughter, Linda Marie (Mrs. Elmer L. Goering) and husband of Halstead, Kan.; four grandchildren; and a brother Abr. Schmidt of Llavas, New Mexico. One brother, Bernhard, preceded him in death. He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
