H. H. Schmidt wurde geboren in McPherson County, Kansas am 21. Juni 1890 und starb am 15. Juli 1946 im Salem Hospital zu Hillsboro, Kansas, im Alter von 56 Jahren und 24 Tagen. Er wurde getauft auf das Bekenntnis seines Glaubens an seinen Erlöser von Prediger Heinrich Banman am 4. Juni 1911 und wurde dadurch Glied der Alexanderwohl Gemeinde deren treues Glied er blieb. Am 15. August 1915 trat er in den heiligen Ehestand mit Agnetha Nickel mit der er 31 Jahre Freud und Leid teilte. Gott segnete ihr Heim mit zwei Töchtern und zwei Söhnen. Er war ein treuer und liebender Vater seiner Familie und hat sie versorgt so gut er konnte in materieller und geistlicher Weise. Er genoß gute Gesundheit bis im Januar 1944 ein Leiden an den Lungen sich fühlbar machte. Aerzte erklärten, daß eine völlige Erholung kaum möglich sei. Ein harter Schlag für ihn und die Familie. Aber Er betete viel und trug sein Leiden geduldig. In seinen einsamen Leidensstunden konnte er einen manchen Blick mit seinem Geistesauge in die Ewige Herrlichkeit tun. Anfang März verlor er seine Stimme! [sic] konnte aber flüsternd sich unterhalten mit den Seinigen und Freunden die ihn besuchten. Er wurde am 29. Mai ins Bethesda Hospital gebracht und am 8. Juli nach dem Salem Hospital in Hillsboro. Sein Leben wird ein Segen bleiben. Wir trauern nicht als solche die keine Hoffnung haben, denn wiederholt hat er getröstet mit den Worten, daß er bereit ist heim zu gehen. Er entschlief sanft in dem Herrn. Sein Leiden war ein Lugengeschwür. Sein Vater, zwei Brüder, und zwei Schwestern gingen ihm im Tode voran. Er hinterläßt sein Gattin, zwei Töchter und zwei Söhne. Die Töchter sind Frieda (Mrs. Ed J. Schroeder) und Esther — Orlando und Roland daheim — ein Schwiegersohn, drei Großkinder — seine betagte Mutter, zwei Brüder und eine Schwester und viele Freunde. Die Leichenfeier wurde gehalten in der Alexanderwohl Kirche am 19. Juli unter der Leitung von Aeltester Phillip A. Wedel und Pred. C. C. Wedel der die Grabrede hielt.

— Funeral services for Henry H. Schmidt of Route 2, Hillsboro, were held Friday afternoon, July 19, at the Alexanderwohl church. He passed away on July 15 at the Salem hospital, Hillsboro, at the age of 56 years and 24 days, after an illness which extended over a period of two years. He is survived by his deeply bereaved wife; two daughters, Frieda (Mrs. Ed. J. Schroeder) and Esther; two sons, Orlando and Roland; a son-in-law and three grandchildren.

HENRY SCHMIDT

Henry H. Schmidt was born in McPherson county Kansas, on June 21, 1890, and departed this life July 15, 1946, at 4:00 P.M. at the Salem hospital, Hillsboro, Kansas, at the age of 56 years and 24 days.

He was baptized upon the confession of faith in his Redeemer by Rev. Heinrich Banman on June 4, 1911, and received as a member of the Alexanderwohl church of which he remained a faithful member until his death.

On August 15, 1915, he was united in holy matrimony with Agnetha Nickel and for 31 years they shared the joys and sorrows of life together. God blessed the home with four children, two daughters and two sons. He was a dear and loving father to his family, always caring and providing physically and also spiritually.

During his life he enjoyed fairly good health until January, 1944, when he became ill and upon consulting several doctors he was informed that he could not be cured. This was very hard for him and also his family to believe. But he gave himself entirely into the Lord’s will. He prayed much and bore his illness very patiently. During the first part of March he lost his voice but he could speak in a whisper, for which we were very thankful.

On May 29 he was taken to the Bethesda hospital at Goessel and on July 8 he had to be changed to the Salem Hospital at Hillsboro. At both places the nurses and doctors gave him the best of care.

To us the memory of him will ever remain a blessing. We mourn the departure of him who left us so soon, but rejoice in the assurance that he often gave us, that he was ready to be with the Lord and that one day there will be a reunion in glory.

He quietly fell asleep in the Lord. His death was attributed to a tumor on the right lung.

His father and two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his deeply bereaved wife; two daughters, Frieda (Mrs. Ed. J. Schroeder) and Esther; two sons, Orlando and Roland; also one son-in-law and three grandchildren, his aged mother, two brothers, one sister, and a host of relatives and friends.

He would not want the ones he loves
To grieve for him today
We must not say that he is dead,
For he is just away—
Away upon a journey
To a land that’s bright and fair;
And though we all will miss him here
We know he’s happy there—
And memories of him will bring
New comfort every day
As we recall he is not dead
For he is just away.

The funeral services were held in the Alexanderwohl church July 19, in the afternoon, in charge of Rev. Phillip A. Wedel, assisted by C. C. Wedel, who presented a short message at the grave side.
