HENRY SCHMIDT

Henry Schmidt, son of Henry and Pauline Williams Schmidt, was born Dec. 2, 1871 at Deutsch Wymyschle, Gombin, Poland.

At the age of 18 years he realized his lost condition and accepted the Lord. He was baptized by Elder Jacob Foth and united with the Mennonite Church.

At the age of 21 he came to the United States, arriving at Hillsboro, Kan. July 12, 1892. Here he found kind relatives and friends who did much to help him.

On May 10, 1900 he was united in holy matrimony with Eva Gaede. To this union were born nine sons and four daughters. Joys and sorrows were shared for more than 52 years, when mother went to her heavenly reward Dec. 19, 1952. Also preceding him in death were two sons and one daughter in infancy.

He enjoyed good health until about eight years ago. During the last years it became his earnest desire to be relieved and to be with his Lord, which was granted him on Sept. 8, 1963 at the Salem Hospital in Hillsboro. He attained the age of 91 years, nine months and six days.

We will remember him as a kind and loving father with a sincere concern for his family.

He leaves to mourn his departure seven sons, Henry of Wichita, Ben of Whitewater, John of Florence, Adam of Marion, Ernest of Red Bluff, Calif., Arnold of Wichita, and Walter of Anaheim, Calif.; three daughters, Mary (Mrs. Albert I. Gertz) of Wichita, Esther (Mrs. Fred Groh) of Clements, Calif., and Ruth (Mrs. Adolph D. Schmidt) of Florence; seven daughters-in-law; 33 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Albertina Balzer of Paraguay. His parents, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
