• Mrs. Frank Schmidt, 78, former resident of the Walton and Newton communities, died Sunday evening at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel where she had been a patient for about a year. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Tabor Mennonite Church, with Rev. James Waltner in charge. Mrs. Schmidt was the former Lena Reimer. She and her husband lived on a farm near Walton for a number of years, moving to Newton in 1953.He died in 1956, and in 1963 she entered the Bethesda Home. Surviving are four daughters and one son, 20 grandchildren, and two sisters.

MRS. FRANK SCHMIDT

Helena Reimer Schmidt was born Jan. 30, 1887, the daughter of Abraham A. and Helena Unruh Reimer. She passed away Jan. 24, 1965, at 8:30 p.m. at the Bethesda Hospital, Goessel, Kan., just six days prior to her 78th birthday.

She grew to womanhood in the Goessel community and attended the Heimbaugh School. Upon confession of her faith, she was baptized by Rev. Peter Balzer on June 3, 1906, at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. She was married to Frank Schmidt on Nov. 8, 1912, and transferred her membership at that time to the Tabor Mennonite Church, where she remained a member all her life.

They made their home on a farm near Walton where six children were born and reared. Those surviving are: Lily, Mrs. Melbourn [sic Melbourne]; Velma, Mrs. Rudy Claassen; Olga, Mrs. Claude Conway; Alvin, and Leona, Mrs. Kenneth J. Griffith.

Her husband passed away on Feb. 12, 1956. One son, Roland, his wif Ruth and son Mark were killed in an automobile accident on June 26, 1957.

In addition to the five children, who with their families remember her life, other survivors include 20 grandchildren and two sisters. Miss Katherine Relier and Mrs. Edward Schroeder.

As a young woman she attended a sewing class and became an expert seamstress. She derived a great deal of pleasure from being able to take an active part in her sewing society. She felt this washer talent by which she could further serve her Lord.

She enters the Bethel Home in Newton in the spring of 1963, and the Bethesda Home, Goessel, in October of the same year. As she needed more care, she was moved to the hospital on Jan. 25, 1964, where she remained almost exactly a year until her death. We cherish the memories of her concern for us. — The Family.
