Heinrich F. Schmidt, Sohn von Jacob Schmidt und Helena Friesen Schmidt, wurde geboren auf einer Farm in Harvey County, Kansas am 11. Juli, 1889. Er starb im Bethel Hospital am 18. Januar, 1946 im Alter von 56 J. und 7 Tagen. Durch die Tage seines Lebens lebte er in Harvey County, Kansas und erhielt seine Schulbinldung in der Distrikt Schule und später in der Hoffnungsau Bibel Academie. Als er 18 Jahre alt war bekehrte er sich und nahm Jesus als seinen persönlichen Heiland an und wurde am 7. Juni 1908 von Aeltester Abraham Ratzlaff getauft und Glied in der Hoffnungsau Gemeinde deren treues Glied er blieb. Am 16. Dezember, 1910 trat er in den Stand der Ehe mit Elisabeth Buller die jetzt seinen Tod betrauert. In dieser Ehe wurden ihnen 4 Kinder geboren, wovon eine Tochter, Esther, Mrs. Ben P. Martens, ihm vor fast 12 Jahren im Tode voran ging. Dieses war für ihn ein schwerer Schlag. Er war ein liebender und sorgender Vater in der Familie, und diese Liebe und Fürsorge wird leben wenn auch das Auge geschlossen und der Mund stumm geworden ist. Er ist eingegangen in die Ruhe bei Jesu, den er liebte und an den er sich hielt bis ans Ende. Wegen eines Krebsleiden mußte er sich vor einem Jahre einer Operation unterziehen, und wurde auch wieder ziemlich gesund, so daß er daheim seine Arbeit tun konnte. Doch genau nach einem Jahr wurde wieder eine Operation unternommen, aber seine Krankheit war zu weit vorgeschritten, er starb am nächsten Tage. Er hinterläßt seinen frühen Tod zu betrauern seine Gattin Elisabeth Buller Schmidt, eine Tochter, Ella, R. N. Hutchinson, Ks. zwei Söhne und ihre Gatinnen, Arnold B. Schmidt, Moundridge, Ks., und Irwin Schmidt, Kalvesta, Kan. einen Schwiegersohn, Ben P. Martens, seiner verstorbenen Tochter Esther Gatte. Auch 6 Großkinder und viele Freunde. Die Angehörigen sagen nur: Auf Wiedersehen im Licht.

— Funeral services for H. F. Schmidt, farmer at Moundridge, were held on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Hopeview church at Inman. Death came to Mr. Schmidt at the comparatively early age of 56 years. he passed away at the Bethel hospital on Friday, January 18, after a several months' illness of heat disease. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Arnold of Moundridge, and Irvin of Dodge City; one daughter Ella of Hutchinson,two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren.

HENRY F. SCHMIDT

Henry F. Schmidt, son of Jacob Schmidt and Helena (Friesen) Schmidt, was born on a farm in Harvey county, Kansas, on July 11, 1889. He died at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton, on January 18, 1946, at the age of 56 years, 5 months and 7 days.

He lived in Harvey county, Kansas, all his life and received his education in the Alta and O. K. public schools and later attended the Hoffnungsau Preparatory school, with Rev. J. H. Epp, now of Kingman, Kansas, as instructor.

He accepted Christ as his Savior when a youth 18 years and was baptized upon the confession of his faith by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff on June 7, 1908. He was accepted into the membership of the Hoffnungsau Mennonite church, whose member he remained till he departed from this life.

On December 16, 1910, he united with Lizzie Buller in the bonds of holy matrimony. In this union they were permitted to share life's joys and hardships for a little more than 35 years and only too soon has it ended with his sudden death.

Four children were born into the family, two sons and two daughters, of whom one daughter, Esther (Mrs. Ben P. Martens) preceded him into the Great Beyond, in May, 1934. He was a loving and caring husband and also a loving father to the children. He was of a cheerful nature and made many friends wherever he went. His love and friendliness will live though his eyes are closed and his lips are silent. We know he is gone to be with Christ, in whom he believed and whom he trusted to the end. So even though our heart bleeds and our teardrops flow we tender him the rest in the presence of Christ, his Savior, and say: "Till we meet again."

He had a serious operation on January 13, 1945, of which he seemingly recovered quite well after a six-weeks stay in the hospital. But about two weeks ago, he began to feel his ailment coming back again. So on Janaury 13, exactly a year after his operation, he was taken to the Bethel Hospital again and three days later underwent another major operation. However, it was found that there was no hope for him. He committed his soul into the hand of god and quietly passed to his eternal reward on January 18, 1946, at 4 P. M.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Lizzie Schmidt; one daughter, Ella, R. N. of Hutchinson, Kansas; two sons, Arnold B. Schmidt, Moundridge; and Irvin Schmidt of Ingals, Kansas, and two daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, Ben P. Martens, and his present wife and three children of Buhler, Kansas, whom he loved as his own grandchildren; and also three grandchildren. Two grandchildren have preceded him in death. Remaining also are two brothers and four sisters and a large number of other relatives and friends. Sleep on beloved and take thy rest.
