Funeral services were held June 25 at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, rural Goessel, for Frieda Wedel Schmidt, 87, who died June 22 at Bethesda Home in Goessel. Orlando Waltner officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The widow of Peter H. Schmidt, she was the last surviving charter member of the Goessel YWCA and a retired housekeeper and nurse aide at Bethesda Home. Survivors include two stepsons, Eldon R. Schmidt of rural Canton and Joe Goossen of Fort Eleza, Brazil; two stepdaughters, Rosella Goering of Wichita and Edna Nickel of rural Canton; and 14 grandchildren.
