FRED B. SCHMIDT

Fred B. Schmidt, the son of Benjamin K. and Katie Unruh Schmidt, was born July 12, 1898, at Halstead, Harvey county, Kansas. With his parents, he moved to Taloga, Oklahoma in 1910, where he lived nine years. Since then he had made his home at Meno, Okla., where he lived most of the time. On July 17, 1917, he was baptized upon his faith in Jesus Christ and accepted as member in the Kidron church.

On January 26, 1922, he married Miss Anna Buller, with whom he has shared sorrow and joy for over 25 years. In 1931 they both joined the New Hopedale Mennonite church of which he was a faithful member until his departure.

On March 5, 1947, he submitted to an operation after having been in poor health for some time. The doctors discovered internal cancer. He remained in the hospital for 17 days. After coming home he helped to repair his combine and went to harvest with the boys in June, but he came home early because of illness.

On June 18 he was operated again and suffered intensely for four and one-half months. He submitted to the hand of God and was very patient in his suffering. He was conscious almost to the end. Then five minutes after 6 a. m., November 4, 1947, he breathed his last, attaining the age of 49 years three months and 22 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife Anna, and son Arthur of his home; his mother, Mrs. Katie Schmidt of Goltry, Okla.; one brother, Cornelius, of Enid, Okla.; one sister, Marie, of the home in Goltry, Okla., and another sister, Mrs. Eva Unruh, of Garber, Okla.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Buller, Meno, Okla., two brothers-in-law, Frank Buller, Hutchinson, Kansas, and David Buller, of Enid, Okla., three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Susie Unruh, Meno, Okla., Mrs. Lena Unruh, Lahoma, and Mrs. Caroline Froese, Enid, Okla.; 14 nephews, nine nieces and many other friends and relatives.

A large number of friends and relatives gathered for the funeral on Friday afternoon, Nov. 7. Rev. H. U. Schmidt and Rev. A. J. Unruh were in charge. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
