text of obituary:

FRANK SCHMIDT

Our father, Frank Schmidt, son of Jacob S. and Sarah Hiebert Schmidt, was born Sept.19, 1896, in Marion County, Kansas. His early education was received in the Emmentahl [sic Emmental] School. He graduated from the Goessel Preparatory School in 1908 and later attended Bethel College.

He was baptized upon confession of faith in his Redeemer in 1906 by Rev. Peter Balzer in the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. When the Tabor Church was organized, he transferred his membership to this church and had a deep concern for the welfare of all its members.

He was united in marriage to Lena Reimer on Nov. 8, 1912, by Rev. P. H. Unruh. Two sons and four daughters were added to this union. They made their home on a farm northwest of Walton where they lived for 40 years. For the past three years they resided in Newton.

Our home was based an [sic] Christian principles and father led us in daily Bible reading and prayer. A love for God and His ways was deeply instilled in our hearts and minds during this period of devotion which was a positive influence toward our Christian training.

His devotion to god and the furthering of the Lord's work was evidenced by his willingness to work for and support missions, relief, education and all other fields of Christian services. During the last year, while ill health kept him from actively taking part, he continued to support church work with many prayers.

He quietly passed away at the Bethel Hospital shortly before 6:30 P. M. on Sunday, Feb. 12, at the age of 69years, four months and 25 days. Even though we are deeply grieved by the loss of our husband and our father, we rejoice that he is with the Lord and is enjoying the Heavenly Home to which he eagerly longed to go during the last weeks of pain and suffering.

He is survived by his wife, Lena, his children, Lily and Melbourne Whitsett, Velma and Ruddie Claassen, Olga and Claude Conway, Roland and Ruth Schmidt, Alvin and Wilma Schmidt, Leona and Kenneth Griffith; 16 grandchildren; five brothers, Cornelius, Abraham, Isaac, Phillip and Nick; one sister, Elizabeth Voth; and one foster sister, Mrs. Ben Duerksen.

Funeral services were held in the Tabor Mennonite Church on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 15. His pastor, Rev. H. B. Schmidt, and Rev. Arnold Epp were the officiating ministers. A short prayer service for the immediate family preceded the church service. Music was given by a mixed octet and a male quartet. He was laid to rest in the church cemetery. — The Family.
