● Memorial services for Ernest Henry Schmidt, 73, of North Newton, were held Oct. 10 at First Mennonite Church, Newton. James Dunn and Lubin Jantzen officiated. A native of Bessie, Okla., he was a retired dairy farmer. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude (Dyck); one son, Michael of North Newton; three daughters, Carol Klingenberg of Peabody, Marilyn Van Norden of Leoti, and Norma Janzen of Wichita; his stepmother, Elizabeth Schmidt of Beatrice, Neb.; two brothers, Carl of Beatrice and Walter of Wichita; and six grandchildren.
