David A. Schmidt, Grünfeld, Sohn von Andreas und Eva Schmidt, ward am 15. April 1863 in Alexanderwohl, Südrußland geboren und besuchte dort ein paar Jahre die Schule, bis die Eltern 1874 nach Kansas kamen. Hier ging er noch etwas zur Schule und lernte Englisch lesen und schreiben. 1881 ward er von Aelt. Jakob Buller getauft und Glied der Alexanderwohl Gemeinde. Als die Tabor Gemeinde entstand ward er Gründungsglied und blieb da Glied. 1884 heiratete er Hermina Becker und sie durften ihre Silberhochzeit, ihre goldene, und auch ihre diamantene Hochzeit mit einander feiern. Es wurden ihnen 7 Kinder geschenkt von denen 2 Söhnen starben. Er hatte 18 Enkel, und 8 Urenkel. Er war 20 Jahre in der Schul-Board und 2 Jahre Schreiber der Tabor Gemeinde und half mit wo er konnte. Am 23. Nov. erlitt er einen Schlaganfall an der rechten Seite und konnte nichts mehr essen oder trinken und entschlief am 8. Dez. um Mittag im Alter von 82 J. 7 M. und 23. Tagen. Die Begräbnisfeier fand am 12. Dez. in der Tabor Kirche statt, geleitet von Aelt. P. H. Richert und H. B. Schmidt, und ein Quartett sang. Begraben wurde die Leiche auf dem Tabor Friedhof.

— David A. Schmidt, a retired farmer but for many years a resident in the Goessel community, died here at his home at 132 East Sixteenth Street on Saturday, December 8. Funeral services were held at the Tabor church on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Schmidt reached the age 82 years, 7 months and 23 days. For a number of years Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt lived here in town, their home being located close to their children, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Androes. Two years ago on February 7, Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt had the rare privilege of celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and five children: Mrs. Isaac Schmidt, and Arnold Schmidt of Route 2, Newton; Mrs. Herman Androes of this city. A. B. Schmidt, Tuscon [sic Tucson], Arizona, and Mrs. Henry Zacharias of Hillsboro; also a brother, Abraham Schmidt of Canton.

DAVID A. SCHMIDT

David A. Schmidt, (Gruenfeld) son of Andrew and Eva Schmidt, was born April 15, 1863, in Alexanderwohl, South Russia. In 1874 he came to America with his parents.

He was baptized in 1881 by Elder Jacob Buller upon the confession of his faith and joined the Alexanderwohl church. When the Tabor church was organized he became one of the charter members and remained a faithful member until his death.

He entered holy wedlock in 1884 with Hermine Becker. They shared life’s joys and sorrows together for 61 years and 10 months. They were privileged to celebrate the silver, golden and diamond wedding anniversaries.

Seven children were born to this union. Two preceded him in death. He became grandfather of 18 children, of whom two have gone on before. Eight children called him great-grandfather.

He had a stroke on November 23, 1945, which paralyzed his right side and prevented him from eating and drinking.

He died December 8 at 12 o’clock noon, having reached the age of 82 years, seven months and 23 days.

Funeral services were held on December 12 in the Tabor church with Elder P. H. Richert and Rev. H. B. Schmidt officiating. A men’s quartet sang appropriate songs. He was laid to rest in the Tabor church cemetery.
