MRS. CLARA SCHMIDT
Mrs. Clara Unruh Schmidt, daughter of Ben and Mary Dirks Unruh, was born on June 7, 1897 at Stockwood, Minn. With her parents she moved to Pawnee Rock, Kan. and then to Hillsboro, Kan. where she grew to womanhood.
On June 11, 1913 she was baptized upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour by Rev. John Plenert and received into the Johannestal Mennonite Church of Hillsboro. She received her education at the Unruh elementary school and attended Hillsboro Bible Academy.
She was united in marriage with Cornelius B. Schmidt on July 21, 1918. Together they shared life's problems and joys for 48 years. To this union were born three sons and one daughter.
Her life was one of daily reading of her Bible, patience and kindness. She maintained a steadfast devotion to God and desired that His will be realized in her life.
They made their home in Kansas, Missouri and Montana. In 1959 they moved to Birch Tree, Mo. She transferred her membership to the Winona Christian Church in 1960.
Mother had been in failing health for some time. On August 15 she entered the Mountain View, Mo. hospital and was later taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Schmidt at Eureka, Ill. for several weeks and then entered the hospital. She suffered a stroke in October. She reached the age of 69 years, five months and 13 days.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Cornelius; three sons, Bennie A. of Rogerville, Mo., Orval L. of Nampa, Ida., Kenneth of Mountain Lake, Minn.; one daughter, Gladys (Mrs. George Schmidt) of Eureka, Ill. ; two brothers, Lewis and Bennie Unruh of Hillsboro, Kan.; four sisters, Mrs. Henry Ratzlaff of Buhler, Kan., Mrs. Herman Schmidt and Mrs. Walter Bartel, Hillsboro, Kan., and Mrs. Lee Salts of Wichita, Kan.; and 18 grandchildren.
