Newton & Vicinity

Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Mennonite Church, Newton, for Albert Schmidt, 72. Dr. Albert Epp officiated. Schmidt died Jan. 27 at Axtell Christian Hospital in Newton. A retired farmer, he had lived in the Medford, Okla. area all of his life until his retirement to Newton in 1967. He retained his membership in the Medford Mennonite Church. Survivors include his widow, the former Erna A. Flaming; four sons, Wesley, Harold, and Allen, all of Newton, and Ernest, St. Mary's, Kan.; three sisters, Mrs. Herman Flaming, Newton, Juanita Neufeld, Phoenix, Ariz., and Lorena Friesen, Enid, Okla.; two half-brothers, Ben Schmidt, Enid, and John Schmidt, Blackwell, Okla.; three half-sisters, Marie Redger, Roxbury Kan., Martha Neufeld, Medford, and Anna Schmidt, Goessel, and nine grandchildren.
