JOHN C. SCHLOSSER

John C. Schlosser, son of Clayton C. and Edna (Clemens) Schosser, was born April 14, 1920, in Towamencin township, Pa., on a farm where his father and grandfather were born. He went home to be with Jesus Jan. 10, 1959, at the age of 38 years, eight months and 26 days.

He was smitten with chronic leukemia four years ago, but enjoyed fairly good health until last summer when he spent several weeks in the hospital. A week before his death he broke his hip and spent the last weeks of his life at George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D. C.

He was received into the Towamencin Mennonite Church at Kulpsville, Pa. in his youth. He graduated from the Lower Salford School, attended Souderton High School and the University of Maryland. He was drafted in January 1942 to serve in CPS camps at Grottoes, Va., Bowie, Md., Medaryville, ind., Camino, Calif. and Lima, Ohio.

In October 1943 he was married to Evelyn Smith of Elida, Ohio. their home was blessed with two children, Nancy Jane and John Clemens, Jr. They lived in Elida in their early married years, and later moved to Hyattsville and Silver Springs, Md. where he was a building contractor.

He was a member of the Woodridge Mennonite Church, Washington, D. C., and his strong faith and trust in God kept him through a lengthy illness to the end of his life here. Those who knew him recognized his fine Christian character in all his contacts with others. His brother-in-law, Bishop Truman Brunk, was by his bed to comfort and help minister to his spiritual need the day before his passing. “Wonderful” was the last word he uttered just before he slipped away, as he turned his eyes heavenward with a smile upon his face.

He leaves to mourn his early departure his wife, Evelyn Smith Schlosser; his children Nancy Jane and John C., Jr.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton C. Schlosser, Sr. of Telford, R. D. 2; four brothers, Jacob C. Schlosser, Clayton C. Schlosser, Jr., and David C. Schlosser, all of Telford, R. D. 2, and Paul C. Schlosser of Lederach; four sisters, Mrs. Russell Platchek of Yerkes, Mrs. Reuben Christophel of Lansdale, Mrs. Anthony Skrzat of North Wales and Mrs. George Heilemann of Lederach.

Funeral services were held Jan. 12, with a prayer and testimony service attended by close relatives and friends at the Bishop Truman Brunk, Sr., home in Denbigh, Va.; followed by services at the Warwick Mennonite Church in Denbigh with Pastors John H. Sheck and Nelson Burkholder officiating. His body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
