10-Year-Old Boy Killed in Hay Cutter

Sugarcreek, Ohio. — Firman Schlabach, 10-year-old son of Abraham and Susan Schlabach of Millersburg, died instantly of a skull fracture when he accidentally fell backward into a hay cutter on Aug. 2.

The fatal mishap occurred when he and some other boys were riding on a tractor driven by 10-year-old Duane Miller. Firman jumped off to investigate a ground hog hole. When he attempted to jump back, he fell into the cutter.

Funeral services for the youth were held Aug. 5 at the Shiloh Mennonite Church with Ura Shetler officiating. Besides his parents, the boy is survived by six brothers and two sisters, all of the home.
