One Dead, Six Injured In Indiana Accident

Goshen, Ind. — A one-car crash near Emma in Lagrange County on Jan. 29 claimed the life of a 72-year-old Amish woman and injured five other Amish passengers and the driver, Mrs. Margaret E. Fought, 50, of Topeka.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sam A. (Edna) Schlabach of rural Topeka were held Saturday at the Mahlon Hershberger residence. She leaves her husband, seven daughters and one son and their families.

Mrs. Fought, who often drove her car for Amish groups, was traveling on an ice-covered country road when the car went into a skid and crashed broadside into a utility pole.

The passengers in the car are all of the Topeka community. Critically injured were Emanuel j. Miller, 36, and his wife Mary Ellen, 41, both of rural Topeka. Also suffering fractures and other injuries were Irene Hershberger, 23, and Emma Miller, 30, while Mrs. Fought and Mary J. Frey, 69, both had back injuries, lacerations and contusions.
