ROSINA HOFER SCHINDLER

Rosina Hofer Schindler, daughter of Christian and Elizabeth Bergey Hofer, was born near Munsingen, Canton Berne, Switzerland August 29, 1862. She departed this life February 19, 1953, at the age of 90 years, five months and 21 days.

August 23, 1887, she was united in marriage to Christian Schindler of Signaw, Switzerland. To this union were born three sons and five daughters. In her youth she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

In 1891 she came to America with her small son, John, to join her husband who had come over previously to Hartford, Lyon county, Kansas. At this place they settled and soon became affiliated with the Mennonite Church. In 1911 they moved to Crystal Springs, Kansas and transferred their membership to the Crystal Springs Mennonite church to which they were both faithful.

She was a very patient and cheerful mother, always having a deep concern for others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1934, two daughters in infancy, and one grandson, Bernard Schindler.

Those who mourn her departure are six children: John A., Harper; Jacob L., Harper; Mary R., Anthony; Bertha (Mrs. Fred Troyer), Crystal Springs; Samuel L., Harper; and Matilda (Mrs. Dwight Troyer), Slaton, Texas; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth of Thun, Switzerland; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Crystal Springs Mennonite church February 21, 1953, in charge of Alba Swartzendruber and D. Lowell Nissley with burial in the church cemetery.
