DANIEL SCHINDEL

On April 25, at the age of 86 years, Daniel Schindel of Swift Current, Sask., passed into the presence of the Lord. He was born on November 12, 1888 in Volyhnia, Russia. As a young lad he lost both his parents. He was 18 when he immigrated to Canada with his brothers and homesteaded in the area of Rush Lake, Sask. In 1909 he was married to the former Katherine Lang. He lived on the farm he homesteaded until 1945. At that time they moved to Main Centre. In 1954 they retired to Herbert and later they moved to Swift Current. God granted 65 years of married life to Daniel and Katherine Schindel. To their union were born seven children, four daughters and three sons. Daniel accepted Jesus as his Saviour in 1918 and in the following year he was baptized and received into the Ebenezer Mennonite Brethren Church at Rush Lake. He was very active in the church, serving as deacon, a ministry he continued later in the Tum Hill MB Church. His favourite pastime was reading the Scriptures, which as he grew older he could quote to suit almost any occasion. He passed away on April 25, predeceased by his parents, three sistl'rs and seven brothers. Cherishing his memory are his wife Katherine; four daughters, Mrs. John (Elsie) Fast, Mrs. Edward (Emma) Fast, Mrs. Harry (Elma) Schmidt, Mrs. Toby (Dorothy) Schmidt; three sons, Ted, George and Daniel; 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; and one sister.
