ABRAHAM SCHIFFLER

Abraham Schiffler, son of the late Albrecht and Mary Althouse Schiffler, was born Aug 4, 1873, at Metamora, Ill. At the age of six he journeyed with his parents to Adams County, Neb. where he spent the remainder of his life. On Jan. 4, 1956, he passed to his eternal home, aged 82 years and five months.

On May 20, 1903, he was married to Lydia Snyder who preceded him in death in 1949. To this union were born eight children, who survive. They are Albert J. of New Meadows, Idaho; Mrs. Rebecca Taylor, Hastings, Neb.; Phares P., Wendell, Idaho; R. Wesley, Filer, Idaho; George E., Everson, Wash.; C. Marion, Roseland, Neb.; Mrs. Ethel Dobbins and Mrs. Elsie Hoylman, both of South English, Iowa. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Sarah Burkhard of Roseland, Neb., 24 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends. he was predeceased by two brothers, one sister and two grandsons.

As a young man he accepted Christ as his Saviour, uniting with the Roseland Mennonite church where he remained a faithful, active member as long as his health permitted. It was his lifelong desire to be of service to his fellowman in anyway possible. He found the Bible a most necessary companion and guide in life, and a thorough study was made of its teachings which he freely applied to his daily living. his passing is his gain and our loss. One of his favorite verses was Phil. 1:21, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."

Funeral services were conducted on Jan.7 at the Roseland Mennonite Church with Fred Reeb and Alton Miller officiating. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
