MRS. JUSTINA SCHIERLING

Justina Schierling, daughter of Henry and Katherine Janzen, was born at Inman, Kansas on April 23, 1886, and peacefully went to her eternal home on June 7, 1953 at Fresno, Calif, at the age of 67 years, one month and 14 days.

Her childhood days were spent at Inman where she also received her elementary school education. At the age of 14 she moved with her parents to Medford, Okla.

Upon confession of faith she was received into the First Mennonite church. On Nov. 20, 1904, she was united in marriage to Jacob J. Shierling [sic Schierling] to which union were born three sons and five daughters: Mrs. Justina Pankratz, Mrs. Agnes Froese, Mrs. Katherine Funk, Mrs. Mary Hiebert, Abe Shierling,[sic] Jake Shierling, [sic Schierling] Mrs. Anna Applegate, and one son who preceded her in early infancy.

As a young couple they moved to western Kansas, near Syracuse, where they resided for about eight years. The next 23 years the family lived at Inola, Okla. Here they enjoyed fellowship in the Eden First Mennonite church. In 1936 they again changed residence, this time to North Hollywood, California. The last four years the family lived in Dinuba, Calif. Here they enjoyed blessed fellowship in the Mennonite Brethren church.

On April 10 mother was taken seriously ill and finally was taken to the hospital in Fresno. Though good care was given her, her life could not be prolonged and Sunday evening, June 7, she went to be with the Lord. Her eyesight had failed during the time of her illness; now she saw Him whom she had believed and trusted for her salvation. One of her favorite songs was the old familiar one: "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." She was a dear and loving mother to us. Now she is at home and at rest from all her labors.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband; the above named sons and daughters; 22 grandchildren; five brothers, and five sisters. Rev. Herman Janzen, Mrs. John Klassen, Cornelius Janzen, Mrs. Helena Reimer, Anna Janzen, Jacob Janzen, Mrs. Marie Regier, Abraham Janzen, Mrs. Eva Janzen, and Henry Janzen, and a great company of friends. — The Family.
