SOLOMON D. SCHERTZ
Solomon D. Schertz was born on Feb. 8, 1881 in Washington, Ill. and died at the San Antonio Hospital in Upland, Calif on March 3 at the age of 81 years, 24 days.
In 1910 he was married to Lena Nafsinger, also of Washington, Ill. In 1919 they came to California and made their home in Upland. Recently they purchased a residence near the First Mennonite Church, as driving became too difficult for him. His last five days were spent in the hospital where he passed away as a result of uremia.
They lived in Upland 42 years. After 17 years of employment by the Mt. View Citrus Association, he retired and devoted his time to poultry raising on a small scale until ill health caused him to discontinue this also.
Surviving him are his wife, Lena; a foster son Russell Huffman of Glendale; four sisters, Mrs. Katie Imhoff, Mrs. Mollie Nafziger, Mrs. Susan Guth and Mrs. Sada Roth, all of Washington, Ill.; and two brothers, Joe and Emanuel Schertz, also of Washington, Ill. Mrs. Sada Roth and Mr. Roth came for the funeral.
He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, Upland. Services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. N. Smucker. A male quartet from the Mennonite (Old) Church sang two numbers. Entombment followed in Bellvue Mausoleum.
