Dr. Theodore R. Schellenberg, 66, who retired last year from the National Archives in Washington, D. C., died of a heart attack at his Broad Run, Va. home, Jan. 14. A native of the Buhler, Kan. community, he graduated from the University of Kansas with B.A. and M.A. degrees and received the doctorate in history from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Theodore R. Schellenberg, 66, died Jan. 14 at his Afton Farm at Broad Run, Manassas, Va.
He was born in Harvey County Kan., graduated from Tabor College (Kansas) and the University of Kansas and received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.
He was executive secretary for the Joint Committee on Materials for Research of American Council of Learned Societies and the Social Science Research Council and Records Officer for the Office of Price Administration. He also served as Deputy Examiner, then Division Chief, Program Advisor and finally Director of the National Archives in Washington, D. C. until his retirement in the middle 1960's.
He was the author of the first authoritative volume on archives published in 100 years entitled, "Modern Archives Principles and Techniques." His last work was completed in 1965, "The Management of Archives."
He lectured at a number of university graduate schools and was Fulbright Lecturer in Australia and India. He traveled extensively, assisting others in archives management.
His library has been given to Tabor College and his papers to the Kansas State Historical Society.
He and his wife bought the Afton farm about 20 years ago which they used as a country retreat. About 10 years ago they moved to the farm permanently. Schellenberg was an active member of the Haymarket Baptist Church and was serving as chairman of the finance committee at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Alma C. Schellenberg and two sons, Dr. Paul Herbert Schellenberg of Highland Springs and Dr. Karl Abraham Schellenberg of Johns Hopkins University, Md.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 17 at Haymarket Baptist Church.
