Couple Fatally Hurt As Car hits Pole
Steinbach, Manitoba. — A one-car accident on the Perimeter Highway west of Winnipeg claimed the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob H. Schapansky of Grunthal, Man. The double funeral service was held Jan. 17 at the Grunthal Elim Church.
The car, driven by Mr. Schapansky, failed to make a curve on the slippery pavement as the couple approached an intersection where an overpass is under construction. The auto struck a utility pole, breaking it off at the base.
The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. Mr. Schapansky died in Winnipeg General Hospital at XXX p.m. and his wife Maria died 50 minutes later.
Coming to Canada from Russia in 1926, the couple farmed at Kleefeld for 33 years. They leave three daughters and two sons and families.
