LOCKER OPERATOR DIES AT REEDLEY

Reedley, Calif. — David F. Schapansky, 61, operator of a food locker business here, died Dec. 28 after suffering a stroke of paralysis.

Mr. Schapansky was a native of Oklahoma and a resident here the past 17 years.

Funeral services were conducted Dec. 30 at the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church.

DAVID F. SCHAPANSKY

Our loving husband and father, David F. Schapansky, son of David and Mathilda Engle [sic Englel] Schpansky, was born on May 3, 1900, on a farm in Washita County, Okla., near the little town of Corn. Here he spent his childhood days, attended Pleasant Ridge Rural School and also the Mennonite Brethren Church of Corn. For a short time he attended the Corn Bible School and Academy.

During the great revival at Corn which came under the preaching of Dr. A. J. Harms and Rev. H. D. Wiebe, our father realized his lost condition and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized upon his confession of faith and united with the Mennonite Brethren Church.

On March 26, 1923, he was united with Lydia Dick in holy matrimony. This union, which lasted 38 years, nine months and two days, was blessed with two children, one son and one daughter.

We made our first home on a farm in the Corn community. After some time our father felt led to enter the business world. He operated a meat market in Corn. Later we moved to Cordell, Okla. where he became a salesman. In 1944 we moved to Reedley, Calif. where we have made our home in the present time. Here our father worked in various meat markets in Reedley and neighboring towns. About four years ago he opened his own business, the Reedley Frozen Food Lockers. He enjoyed this work and the Lord greatly blessed him in this new endeavor.

Since the day our father was saved he has always held on to the wonderful truth that he was a child of God. We have known him as a father who prayed for all of his family. However, about nine years ago he had a dynamic experience with the Lord. This made his salvation much more real to him and he had the joy of the Lord as well as a glowing testimony.

Our father enjoyed good health and loved his work. He had a great interest in his family, and the five grandchildren the Lord had given him were his special pride and joy.

Wednesday, Dec. 27, he worked all day at his place of business and came home rejoicing as usual. Soon after supper he complained of dizziness so we helped him into his bed and called the doctor. He was given the best of care but soon fell into a deep sleep from which he was not to awaken in this world. On Dec. 28, 1961, his soul was released from the body and he went home to be with his Lord. He reached the age of 61 years, seven months, and 25 days.

Those who remain to mourn his sudden departure are the following: His wife, Mrs. Lydia Schapansky of Reedley; one daughter, Lorene, and her husband Paul Rorabaugh of Salinas, Calif.; one son, Dale and wife Dorothy of Reedley; his mother, Mrs. Mathilda Kliewer of Reedley; five grandchildren; three brothers, Ed of Reedley, John of Hobart, Okla., Ervin of Orosi, Calif.; 10 sisters-in-law, and six brothers-in-law.

The memorial service washeld in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church with the pastor, Rev. Dan Friesen, officiating. — The Family.
