OLDEST RESIDENT DIED AT AGE 90

Altona, Manitoba. — The death at her home here of Mrs. Elizabeth Sawatzky, 90, marked the passing of the town’s oldest resident. She passed away on Monday, Dec. 13, and funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Dec. 17, at the Sommerfelder church, Rev. Jac. Unrau of Rosenfeld in charge.

Mrs. Sawatzky, born in Russia in 1858, came to Canada with friends in 1874. Her first husband was Jacob Bergen, who died in 1928. She later married Henry Sawatzky, whose death occurred in 1936. Two sons, seven daughters, 53 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren survive.
