CORNELIUS K. SAWATZKY

Our father was born in Andreasfeld, Russia in 1900 to Annie (Krahn) and George Sawatzky. In 1902 the family moved to homestead in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan.

Dad accepted Christ as his Saviour in his later teens and was baptized and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church in Aberdeen when he was 22 years old.

He married Suzanna Hildebrandt in 1925 and this union was blessed with 5 children, Norman, Anne, Verna, Jean and Sharon. The way of salvation was taught to us constantly, with the result that all the children have come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

Dad was a wonderful father to us. He saw the positive side of life and enjoyed singing. We cherish many memories and also remember the happy hours we spent singing together with him.

He had a real sense of humour, loved life, and everyone knew it. He also had a deep concern for the spiritual welfare of all his relatives and friends.

His wife and our dear Mom passed away to be with the Lord in 1966. The shock had a positive effect on us all. Dad especially studied scripture intensely and searched for the truths in many good books founded on the principles of the Bible.

In September, 1969 he married Justina Sawatzky and moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan to live with her. He came to know and love her family very much.

Our father was blessed with excellent health throughout his life but he became suddenly very ill and passed away very unexpectedly on April 7.

We thank the Lord that He allowed us to speak with him for almost two hours before his departure and that he had such an easy death.

A funeral service was held in the Swift Current M.B. Church with pastor Nikkel officiating and many relatives and friends gathered to pay their respects. Interment took place in the Valley View Memorial Cemetery, Vancouver, B.C.

He leaves to mourn his wife Justina and her family, his children Norm and Sue Sawatzky, Anne Sawatzky, Arthur and Verna Schroeder, Ernie and Jean Redekop, Sharon Sawatzky, twelve grandchildren, one brother Abraham, six sisters, and many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by our mother, his brothers George, Henry, and Ben and his sisters Margaret Letkeman and Susie Neufeld. The Family
