Pioneer Minister Of Saskatchewan Dies

Rosthern, Sask. — Funeral services for Rev. Cornelius F. Sawatzky, pioneer farmer and minister of the Laird community, were held July 14 at the Laird Mennonite Church.

Rev. Sawatzky died at the Hospital here on July 11 at the age of 98.

A native of the East Reserve in Manitoba, he married Anna Friesen in 1898 and in 1900 they moved to a homestead west of Laird. he became a deacon in 1903 and alter served in evangelistic work. He was ordained to the ministry in 1918, and served as pastor of the Great Deer Church from 1923 to 1947.
