Henry A. Ruth ward geboren in Summerfield, Illinois am 29. März, 1875. 1890 wurde er getauft und Glied in der Mennoniten Gemeinde in Summerfield. Am 30. September 1900 trat er in den Ehestand mit Anna Auernheimer. 3 Kinder wurden ihnen geboren. In 1916 zog die Familie nach Oklahoma und nach einigen Jahren nach Halstead, Kansas, wo sie sich der Mennoniten Kirche in Halstead anschloßen. Henry blieb Glied dieser Gemeinde bis zu seinem Tode. 1934 starb seine Frau Anna. In 1945 zog er mit den beiden Töchtern nach Newton. Im April 1946 hatte er einen Schlaganfall und in September unterzog er sich einer Operation im Axtell Hospital. Am 7. Oktober wurde er plötzlich durch einen Schlaganfall abgerufen, als er im Taxi nach dem Hospital fuhr zu einem “Check up”. Er erreichte das Alter von 71 Jahren, 6 Monaten und 8 Tagen. Er wird betrauert von seinen beiden Töchtern, Frieda und Edith, Newton und seinem Sohn Clifford und Frau, Moundridge; einem Bruder David C. Ruth in Summerfield und vielen Freunden.

— A retired farmer of the Halstead community, Henry A. Ruth, died suddenly in Newton on Monday while in a taxi en route to see a doctor. He had lived in Newton for the past year and a half, residing with his daughters, Frieda and Edith, on East Twelfth street. He was 71 years of age. In addition to the two daughters he is survived by a son, Clifford, of route 1, Moundridge, and a brother David S. Roth of Summerfield, Ill. Funeral services are to be held Friday afternoon at the Mennonite church in Halstead with Rev. D. C. Wedel officiating.

HENRY A. RUTH

Henry A. Ruth was born near Summerfield, Illinois, on March 29, 1875. In the year 1890 he was baptized and joined the Mennonite church in Summerfield.

On September 30, 1900, he was married to Anna Auernheimer, to which union three children were born: two daughters, Frieda and Edith, and one son, Clifford.

In 1916, the family moved to Oklahoma where they lived for several years, after which they moved to Halstead, Kansas. While living at Halstead, his church membership was transferred to the Halstead Mennonite church, where he was a member at the time of his death. He lived at Halstead until1 945; at which time the family moved to Newton, Kansas.

He had been in ill health for several months, having suffered a stroke last April. He underwent a major operation in September of this year, form which he recovered.

He passed away suddenly on Monday afternoon, October 7, at 3:30 p.m. following a heart attack; reaching the age of 71 years, six months and eight days. he was stricken while on route in a taxi to the Axtell hospital for a routine check up and passed away before reaching the hospital.

His wife, Anna, preceded him in death in 1934.

Surviving him are his two daughters, Frieda and Edith, who lived with their father; one son, Clifford, and daughter-in-law of Moundridge, Kansas; and one brother, David S. Ruth of Summerfield, Illinois. Also many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were conducted from the First Mennonite church of Halstead on Friday afternoon, October 11, 1946, at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. D. C. Wedel of Newton in charge. A mixed quartet of Mrs. Ernest Mueller, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Krehbiel and J. H. Mueller sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Near To The Heart of God." Mrs. Ruth Rose was the accompanist. Bearers were: John Neufeld, Robert Vogt, Bill Voran, Lucas Bartel, Clarence Krehbiel and Ivyl McElwain, all nephews of Mr. Ruth.

He was laid to rest in the family lot in the Halstead cemetery under the direction of Kaufman and Dreese.
