Henry Rupp was born December 5, 1854, in Galicia, Austria, and died February 27, 1936, at his home in Hanston, Kansas, at the age of 82 years, two months and 22 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Magdalene Rupp on May 26, 1878, and to this union five children were born of whom all, together with his wife, preceeeded [sic] him in death, Mr. Rupp came to this county about 50 years ago and lived for a short while in Minnesota , after which eh came to Hodgeman county and was engaged in farming several miles northwest of Hanston. A few years after the death of his children, he together with Mrs. Rupp, moved to Hanston where he made his home until the time of his death. Being one of the pioneers of this country, he met with the hardships and difficulties of those days. He was also acquainted with sorrow, as his entire family preceded him in death. He was represented by his fellow men and took great interest in all the affairs of life. He became a member of the Mennonitie church when a youth and remained a member of this church the remainder of his life. Those who survive are one brother and five sisters. Daniel Rupp who lives in Canada, Mrs. Marie Arch and Mrs. Emilie Ewy, both of Orland, California; Mrs. Elizabeth Rasch, who lives in Wisconsin; Mrs. Katherine Freitag of North Dakota and Mrs. Susanna Deutchman of Dundee, Minn.
Funeral services were held at the Mennonite church last Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. T. A. van der Smissen and burial was made in the Mennonite cemetery near the church. None of the sisters or his brother were able to be present for the funeral.
