DRIVER OF PICKUP TRUCK FATALLY INJURED IN CROSSING ACCIDENT

St. James, Minn. — Funeral services for Elmer Rupp, 32, who died of injuries suffered in a truck-train collision, were held Oct. 12 at the First Mennonite Church of Butterfield.

While driving his pick-up truck east on Highway 60 near here Thursday, Oct. 8, Mr. Rupp apparently failed to hear the warning horn of a slow-moving M. and St. L. Freight train and crashed into the engine. He suffered a fractured skull and other injuries, and died the following day at the local hospital.

Only one train a day passes the fatal crossing.

ELMER LLOYD RUPP

Elmer Lloyd Rupp, son of Edward and Marie Rupp, was born at Butterfield, Minn., on Nov. 11, 1921. He attended local schools and accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour during high school days. The following summer he was baptized at Kansas Lake by Rev. Hart of St. James, Minn.

When his parents moved to town, Elmer farmed for three years with his brother, Leonard. Then he came to town and made his home with his mother.

He was fatally injured Thursday morning, October 8, 1953 when his truck collided with a freight train, and died the next morning. He was preceded in death by his father, who died four years ago, and one infant sister.

He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his mother, Mrs. Marie Rupp; six brothers and six sisters, Walter of Salem, Oregon, Palmer of Boone, Iowa, Herbert of Eugene, Oregon, Raymond of Greene, Iowa, Marvin of Bucklin, Kansas, Leonard of Canton, Ill., Linda of Butterfield, Minn., Elsie of McLaughlin, South Dakota, Adella of Henderson, Minn., Anna of Alvwood, Minn., Viola of Lower Brule, South Dakota, and Kathryn of Arlington, Texas. There are also 21 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 12, 1953 at 1:00 o'clock at the Watonwan Funeral Home in St. James, Minn., with Rev. Walter Hatchner in charge, and two o'clock from the Mennonite church in Butterfield, Minn., with Rev. Edward Duerksen officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery north of Butterfield.
