EDWARD RUPP

Edward Rupp was born to Henry and Maria Bachmann Rupp on Sept. 27, 1873, in Troscianiec, Poland, known at that time as Galizien, Austria. He passed on to be with the Lord May 4, 1959, reaching the age of 85 years, seven months and seven days.

Father migrated to America with his mother and brothers and arrived in Mt. Lake, Minn., Apr. 3, 1881, where he made his home the rest of his life. Here he came to know Christ as his personal Savior and on July 14, 1895, he was received into the Bethel Mennonite church by baptism upon confession of faith. he remained a faithful member until his departure.

Father was one of the early business men of Mt. Lake. He began by opening a small store for the sale of school supplies right in his home. He would attend school during the day and open his place of business during his off hours. In 1892 he began the business which eventually became a general merchandise store, and 41 years later, in 1933, he retired.

On July 3, 1896, he was united in marriage to Mathilda Klein of the Butterfield community. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. Daughter Mary died at the age of one and son Reinhold died at the age of 34. Mother preceded father in death on March 15, 1947, at the age of 72. Peter H. Duerksen, a son-in-law, also preceded him in death in 1946 at the age of 38.

Father was a very active church member. For many years he had a perfect attendance record at Sunday school and church services. He served as the secretary of his Sunday school class for many years.

On Oct. 1, 1953, he entered the Eventide home. During the last three years he was bedfast and at 5:30 p. m. on May 4, 1959, he quietly went to be with the Lord.

He leaves to mourn his departure two sons, Walter and wife of Long Lake and Emil and wife of Mt. Lake; one daughter, Linda, Mrs. Ben H. Duerksen and husband of Windom; nine grandchildren; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mary Schultz, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Klein, Gust Klein, all of Hitchcock, Okla., and Mr. and Mrs. Marinus Christensen of Westbrook; a number of nephews and nieces and a host of relatives and friends.

In the last years father often said, “Jesus is my best friend.” Often he longed to be with the Lord, and we rejoice with him that he has been able to realize that hope. We shall miss him, but we know that he has reached his reward. — The Bereaved children.
