LOYAL DAVID ROTH

Loyal David Roth of Eaglesham, Alberta passed away at the University Hospital, Edmonton, following heart surgery on Dec. 14, 1961. He was born March 18, 1917, near Toefield [sic Tofield], Alta. and reached the age of 44 years, eight months, and 27 days.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Martin of Duchess, Alberta on Oct. 12, 1939. To this union were born three sons and two daughters, David, Samuel, and Daniel, all at home, Shirley of Fairview, and Olive at home. He is survived by his wife and five children, one brother Leroy of Duchess, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Roth of Duchess.

For nearly nine years after their marriage, Loyal and Ruth resided near Duchess. In February 1948, Loyal with his family moved to Culp, Alberta, where they resided for several years. He acted as postmaster for the Culp Post Office and operated a school bus.

On May 25, 1952 he was ordained to the ministry in the Mennonite church. He was an inspiring preacher and a faithful pastor.

For a number of years he had been failing in health due to a heart condition. Examinations presented the possibilities of open heart surgery. The first operation was performed Dec. 7, 1961 which revealed the necessity of a second operation that took place December 13. At the time of this operation his case was transferred to the Great physician, the Mender of Human Hearts, under whose eternal care his heart is now made perfect.

Funeral services were held Dec. 16 at the South Side Funeral Home, Edmonton, with Isaac Glick and Paul Voegtlin in charge, and Dec. 17 at the Community Hall in Eaglesahm with Willis Yoder and C. J. Ramer in charge. Interment was made in the Plainview Cemetery. A memorial fund for a church building in the Eaglesham community was established in his behalf.
