MRS. AMANDA ROTH

Our mother, Amanda (Kauffman) Roth, daughter of Daniel and Susannah Kauffman, was born near Arthur, Ill., on Dec. 13, 1876. She passed away at the Silverton hospital, Silverton, Oregon on July 1, 1955, at the age of 78 years, six months and 18 days.

At the age of two years she came with her parents to Oregon, making the trip by train to San Francisco, and from there to Portland by boat. The family settled in the Needy District where she spent her girlhood years.

When she was 14 years of age she accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptized by her grandfather, Bishop Jonas Kauffman, of the Amish Mennonite church. She later became a member of the Zion congregation in which she was a member until her death.

On Jan. 25, 1900, she was married to Daniel Roth of Woodburn. She spent the greater part of her life in this community. Father preceded her in death in 1923. The latter years of her life were spent near the home of her daughter, Mary, of Silverton.

She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters and six sons, Mary (Mrs. Christ Hostetter) of Silverton, Esther (Mrs. Ralph Lais) of Molalla, Sadie of Salem, Beulah (Mrs. John Fretz) Kitchener, Ontario, Joel of Albany, Noah of Canby, Uriah of Malalla [sic Molalla], Harold and Alvin of Silverton, Nathan of Tillamook; one sister, Ida (Mrs. John Yoder) of Hubbard, and one brother, Daniel Kauffman of Chicago, Ill.; 23 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was a faithful and loving mother. The welfare of her family was her deepest concern. Her interest, prayers and counsel will be greatly missed by each one of us. “The Lord knoweth the days of the upright; And their inheritance shall be forever.” Psalms 37:18.

Funeral services at the Zion Mennonite church were in charge of C. J. Kropf. The sermon was given by Allen Erb of Lebanon, Ore.
