DIED SUDDENLY OF HEART ATTACK

Morton, Ill. — Funeral services were held at the Morton Mennonite church Saturday afternoon, March 28, for Mrs. John Roth, who died of a heart attack at her home early Wednesday, March 25. Rev. Roy Roth of Hesston, Kans. officiated.

Mrs. Roth leaves four daughters, Ruth, employed at the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities office, Elkhart, Ind., Barbara, nursing student at Goshen College, Mrs. Ben Gerig of Morton and Mrs. Erwin Mellinger of Baltimore; a sister, Miss Carrie Yoder of Elkhart; and two brothers, Elmer D. and Ora C. Yoder of Shipshewana, Ind.

MRS. ALMA F. ROTH

Alma F. (Yoder) Roth, prominent citizen of Morton, Ill., died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, March 25, 1953. Death was due to a heart attack. She was 59 years of age.

She was the daughter of Noah J. and Fannie (King) Yoder, and was born near Shipshewana, Indiana August 27, 1893. She was united in marriage to John Roth of Morton on Ferbuary [sic] 9, 1918.

She is survived by her husband, John; four daughters, Florence (Mrs. Ben Gerig) of Morton, Ill., Ruth of Elkhart, Indiana, Alta, (Mrs. Erwin Mellinger) of Hagerstown, Maryland, Barbara of Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana; one grandchild, John Stephen Gerig, Morton; two brothers, Elmer D. and Ora C. Yoder of Shipshewana, Indiana; one sister, Carrie B. Yoder, of Elkhart, Indiana. Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death.

In her youth she accepted Christ and united with the Forks Mennonite church near Shipshewana, Indiana. She was an active Christian worker in the Lord's vineyard throughout her life, and a faithful member of the Morton Mennonite church. She had a deep concern for the spiritual welfare of others.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 28, at the Morton Mennonite church, with Rev. Roy Bucher, Rev. Levi Hartzler and Rev. Roy Roth officiating. Rev. Bucher used her well marked Bible for the service, and spoke from Hebrews 13:14, “For here we have no continuing city, but we seek one to come." About six weeks earlier Mrs. Roth had given a talk in the Sunday evening service at the Morton church on this passage.

The family asked that in lieu of flowers, money be sent to the Alma Roth Missionary Memorial Fund. The funeral was attended by more than 500 people, some of whom traveled great distances for the service. Not only is her passing a great loss to the family and her congregation, but to the community as well.

Palbearers [sic] included Howard Albrecht, Milo Albrecht, Marion Albrecht, Don Roth, Herbert Roth and Nelson Roth. Special singing was provided by a quartet including Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Litwiller, Freda Schrock and Roy Roth. Interment was in the Pleasant Grove Mennonite cemetery near Tremont, Illinois.
