Mrs. John Ropp, a resident of Bloomington, Ill., since 1889, died at her home, 201 Seminary avenue Monday morning at 1:0 o'clock following a two weeks' illness of pneumonia.
Mary V. Rupp, daughter of John and Mary Rupp was born near Saareburg, Lorraine, France, January 10, 1854. She came to America with her parents and grandparents in April 1855, after a 48 day voyage from Havre, to New York. After a short visit in Ohio, the family located temporarily in Peoria and later moved to the vicinity of Minier where they lived until 1864, and then moved to Weston.
on February 6, 1872, she was united in marriage to John Ropp; they resided in Dry Grove township for some years until their retirement from their farm, when they came to Bloomington. No children were born to the union. A cousin, Miss Lillie Heck had made her home with them since childhood. Mr. Ropp preceded his wife in death four years ago.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Ropp were lifelong members of the Mennonite Church, having been united with the Normal Church since its founding. Mrs. Ropp was also a member of the W.C.T.U. since its founding and had been honored with an honorary membership in the Y.W.C.A. Both she and her husband had engaged in philanthropic work.
