• Herman Rogalsky, 82, a resident of Newton for about 20 years, died unexpectedly Sunday at his home. He was a member of the Goessel Mennonite Church, where the funeral will be held Thursday afternoon with Rev. Henry Goossen, the pastor, in charge. Mr. Rogalsky was born on a ship while his parents were on the way from South Russia to the United States. He lived in the Goessel community for many years, and was married there to Maria Reimer, who died in 1956. He was married to Amanda Funk at Goessel in 1959, and she survives with a son, Edwin Smith of Newton; one daughter, Mrs. Anna Bace of Porterville, Calif.; three grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Stoelting of Corn, Okla., and Mrs. Marie Thiesen of Inman.

HERMAN ROGALSKY

Herman Rogalsky was born April 3, 1887 at Chortitza, South Russia, the son of August and Marie Rogalsky. He arrived in America with his parents and brother Peter Rogalsky when he was two years old and they moved to Marion, Kan. The first winter in America his mother passed away. On Dec. 31, 1888 he was adopted by the Peter Franzes of Goessel, Kan., where he made his home and received his schooling. On June 8, 1908 he was baptized by Elder H. R. Voth and received into the Alexanderwohl church.

When the Goessel church was organized he had his letter transferred to the Goessel Mennonite Church. He and Maria Reimer were married May 23, 1917. Having no children of their own, they took two orphaned children into their home, Anna and Edwin, whom they cherished and upon whom they bestowed their love.

On April 26, 1956 all were saddened by the death of Maria, beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

The children and grandchildren were a great comfort to him, but he felt he needed companionship in his own home, so three years later, on March 22, 1959, he and Amanda Funk were married in the Alexanderwohl church. They lived together 10 happy years.

He died suddenly on Sunday, April 27, 1969.

He will be greatly missed by those left behind, his beloved wife, his children, grandchildren, brother, sisters and many other relatives and friends. But he will remain in all of our memories until, God willing, we meet again.
